The story of Onoway Seventh-day Adventist Church began in the early 1900s when a small group of Adventist families settled in the Onoway and Alberta Beach area. Though they shared a common faith and a desire to worship together, they had no church building to call their own. Instead, they gathered wherever they could, forming strong friendships and laying the spiritual foundation for what would become a lasting church community rooted in faith, service, and fellowship.
In 1935, those early believers officially organized as a congregation of 17 members and soon purchased land to build the area's first Seventh-day Adventist church. Members generously donated logs, lumber, materials, and countless hours of labor to make the project possible. The church quickly became more than just a building—it was a place where families worshipped together, celebrated important milestones, supported one another through life's challenges, and grew in their relationship with God.
Over time, many families relocated, and the original church was eventually sold. Yet the remaining members remained committed to their faith and continued meeting in homes and rented facilities, never losing sight of their dream of having a church of their own again. That dream began to take shape when land was purchased near Onoway, and members, many of them local farmers, generously contributed from their harvests, finances, and time to support the vision. Construction of the new church began in 1991, and through dedication, sacrifice, and God's blessing, the building was completed debt-free and officially opened in May 1993.
Today, Onoway Seventh-day Adventist Church continues to build on the legacy of those faithful pioneers who came before us. Their commitment, generosity, and trust in God helped shape the church we enjoy today.
